A House with a Story to Tell
Riddle & Read is an independent bookstore in the heart of Red Lion, Pennsylvania, filled with new and used books, gifts, curiosities, and plenty to discover.
But the house we call home has a story of its own. Built in the early 1900s as the home of cigar manufacturer D. Frank Kaltreider. In 1968, it was donated to become the Kaltreider Memorial Library, which it house until the year 2000 when the library moved up the street.
The house has lived many lives since then. We like to think it was simply waiting for the books to find their way back.
The Riddle & Read Society
We believe a bookstore can be more than a place to buy books. It can be a place to find your people, follow a curiosity, try something new, and feel like you belong.
That’s what the Riddle & Read Society is all about.
Members take on monthly Society Missions, share recommendations and discoveries, get invitations to special events and opportunities, and occasionally get a peek at what’s happening behind the shelves.
And for those who want a little more say, our Devotees and Inner Circle members may be invited to The Council to help shape what comes next.
